Brent Tanner

Brent Tanner MA FRCS
Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Mr Brent Tanner has worked as a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon since 1984. First and foremost, his work has been at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, where he was Director of the Burns Unit. The hospital's specialist Burns Unit was developed during the Second World War. Its pioneering work, treating the horrific burns of pilots who had been shot down by enemy fire, has become renowned throughout the World for its excellence in plastic surgery.

Mr Tanner trained at Cambridge University and St. Thomas' Hospitals in London before going on to hold junior posts at the Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow, the Birmingham Accident Hospital and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. For over ten years now Mr Tanner has devoted his life entirely to Cosmetic Surgery, whilst continuing to hold the post of Honorary Consultant at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

Mr Tanner is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) where he has also been a member of the council. He regularly attends international meetings in Dubai, British Virgin Islands, Rome, Nice, USA and Singapore, giving lectures and pursuing new techniques and innovations. He also gives many lectures all around the UK and mentors young consultants.

Mr Tanner offers the latest technology and surgical techniques that are particularly suited to plastic surgery, in particular the mulitfunctional, energy-based scalpal utilising HARMONIC® SYNERGY® technology. The device uses ultrasonic frequencies, allowing the blade to vibrate at 55,500 times a second. This creates high-frequency, mechanical vibrations which enables tissue to be cut with precision and coagulated at the same time. The device also seals blood vessels at lower temperatures, helping to shorten a patient’s recovery or "downtime."

Mr Tanner is supported by a dedicated team of professionals. His anaesthetists have worked with him for many years and are members of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He also works closely with Consultant Psychotherapists, Janet Biglari and Sevim Mustafa of The Bariatric Consultancy, who offer professional guidance for patients who may be considering an aesthetic procedure but are uncertain which procedure they would like or what would suit them best.

Mr Tanner's specialist nurses have been personally trained by him and are members of the British Association of Plastic Surgery Nurses (BAPSN). As well as providing pre and post operative care, they have a twenty-four hour helpline and perform other procedures such as the application of cosmetic fillers, thread vein treatment, the removal of sutures and general skin care.

Every individual will have a different idea of what "perfection" is for themselves but the decision to undergo any cosmetic procedure should not be taken lightly. It is therefore essential to have well informed and realistic expectations of the results. Patients are always seen by Mr Tanner for their initial consultation at which time an individualised quotation and care plan is prepared.
